Found purse  Wellington Jr Secondary ID from 1981, face blurred

When Lori, name withheld, was notified that her junior high school ID from 1981 had recently been located, she initially thought it had to be mistake or some one was playing a joke on her. How could something from 41 years ago still exist and why was it surfacing now? Well, as it turns out the ID had been found on March 27, 2023, in the backyard of a home on Uplands Drive.

The story began when a home owner, who was in his backyard digging a fence post, noticed a small crevice in a rock ledge. Looking inside the hole, he noticed a very old and crumbly purse. He carefully pulled it out and after opening it, he found a well preserved Wellington Junior Secondary School student ID card from 1981-1982. Not knowing if it was associated to a missing person case or not, he decided to turn the items over to the RCMP for safe keeping.

That night Lori, the owner of the card, was notified by police of the find. She was initially skeptical but after a picture of the ID was emailed to her, she laughed when she saw her ID from her junior high days. Said Lori, I’m thinking the purse had probably been stolen and the thief had dumped it in the hole. Over the years, I probably just forgot about it.

After being notified, Lori called Teresa, a long time girlfriend, who she has kept in touch with since her junior high days. It should be noted that in the 1980’s the school was a junior high and it was not to some time later, that it became Wellington High School.

The discovery afforded both Lori and Theresa the opportunity to catch up and share a few laughs  from a time in their life that had become nothing more than a distant memory. In early April, Lori , who know lives in a community south of Nanaimo, attended to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment and was reunited with her long lost ID.
