Richmond RCMP acts against retail theft with successful ‘Boost & Bust’ operations

Richmond RCMP is announcing the successful execution of the latest ‘Project Boost & Bust’ operations on March 9 and 21, 2024, as part of our ongoing commitment to combat property crime and retail theft.
The March operations targeting retail theft resulted in the arrests of numerous individuals and recovery of stolen goods, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the crime reduction strategy.
Key highlights from the March operations:
- A total of 19 suspect were arrested. 4 suspects were from Richmond while 15 were from other jurisdictions with the majority being from Vancouver.
- Substantial amount of stolen merchandise recovered, valued at over $7,000.
- Clothing and electronics were the most sought items.
- The Skytrain remains the primary method of transportation for criminals. Some attempted departing via Ride Share.
- Strategic partnerships with businesses were instrumental in the success of these operations.
- Our Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) has identified retail theft as an increasing trend, prompting a priority targeted response.
‘Boost & Bust’ operations are part of our ongoing commitment to foster safer commercial environments. This operation showcases the determination of the Property Crime Unit, frontline officers, our Crime Analysis Unit, and local businesses to maintain Richmond as a safe community for both retailers and customers.

LPOs play a critical role in identifying shoplifters and providing evidence to aid in arrest, investigation and prosecution.
